Twitter twin, Jasmine is a chatterbox

One of our team at Equinox: Tracy has a daughter, Jasmine who was born the same day as Twitter [1st March 2006]. (We have a family connection as she is also my wife's god daughter). Maybe some of Jasmine's characteristics can give us insight into the nature of Twitter and vice versa. With a Sun/Uranus square Mars - here are two individuals who love their individuality, free self-expression and who will not take no for an answer. Mercury in Pisces square Pluto - Jasmine can be very persuasive. This could also reflect the dichotomy within Twitter between those who want to share their thoughts [Mercury in Pisces] and those who want to sell their services [Pluto/Mercury]. Combine this strong Mars and Uranus with the Moon in Aries, Jasmine is not afraid of being highly controversial and outspoken to the point of being outrageous. Jasmine is also hilarious even when she didn't intend to be. With Mars in Gemini, a lot of energy goes into conversation (Jasmine talks incessantly) and if necessary, she will come to her point in as few words as possible. Does this sound like frequent 140 character posts?

Twitter has fewer illusions and less dimensions

Twitter has an easier chart than Facebook. Twitter has a clearer idea who it is [Sun conjunct Uranus, Moon probably in Aries and probably with easy aspects]. There is less of the self-questioning of Facebook and there are fewer illusions. In the twittersphere, 'twits' or 'twitterers' are constantly reminded how many other 'tweeple' or 'tweeps' they are following and how many are following them.
A friend categorized twitter users as follows:
  1. Super Stars: Ashton Kutcher, Stephen Fry, Jonathan Ross, Oprah, Britney Spears, Lance Armstrong. They lead. Some have over a million followers and follow very few people. Many of these Stars are used to the Press invading their lives to get some negative gossip. On twitter, they can tell their side of the story and have fun at their own expense.
  2. Stars of the people: Barack Obama, Arnie Schwarzenegger, Yoko Ono, 10 Downing St. They attract a huge following and automatically follow back. What politician would want to be seen preaching to the people and not listening? Then can you imagine Obama reading tweets from the 775k people he follows!
  3. Wannabees: They would like to be stars and accumulate avid followers. But as they are not stars and will not follow others unless they are outstanding, their following grows slowly.
  4. Wannasees: The groupies who want to watch the Stars but have no interest in following anyone who is not a celebrity. Most tend not to post, but may occasionally announce they are 'taking a break for a cuppa'.
  5. Number Crunchers: These will follow but expect to be followed. Most are promoting themselves or their business and having fun in a friendly social environment. Over time, reciprocal following usually leads to a large number of followers.
There's a lot of criticism about the groups. Some describe #5 as "follow sluts" who follow anyone and everyone. Others say it is impolite not to follow back. Someone claim there are only two categories: those who want followers and those who won't admit it. Some ask why follow anyone who is not interested in you? This is an Aquarian world of 'live and let live'. Do what works for you and stop worrying about others unless they impose too much unwelcome spam.

Twittermania or Quittermania?

Twitter is a very strange world initially. It is easy to use, but takes a while to understand. Most people describe starting Twitter as like shouting in the dark to the world who may or may not be listening. Nearly 60% of new users to Twitter give up after a month.* Yet, the growth of Twitter has been exponential encouraged by recent media attention (e.g. Oprah, Ashton Kutcher, Jonathan Ross, Sky News) and the triple conjunction in Aquarius..
